“It wouldn’t be New Year’s if I didn’t have regrets.” – William Thomas

Within a minute, it will be a new year. The year that was 2009 will be over, and a new decade will begin. Its a time for fresh starts, clean slates, and resolutions that will fail within the first three weeks. It is a time to forget the mistakes of yesteryear or the horrors that the last decade brought. Also, it is a time to look forward to the history that has yet to be made, and  with the events that have recently unfolded, the teen decade of the twenty-first century will be challenging and interesting. I do not want to ramble for too long, so I just want to say that I hope the new year and decade will be better than the last for you, me, and all humankind.

“We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.”

- Cynthia Ozick

I just wanted to say a quick thank you to all the veterans out there. Without our brave soldiers protecting our civilian behinds, here in the US, we couldn’t enjoy such freedoms to have things like this blog. We really owe them a lot, and their work is often far under appreciated. Thank you troops for what you have done in service to this great country. Those men and women who have served are better than I, and I can not thank them enough for their service.

I would just like to take the opprotunity to wish all citizens in the United States a happy Fourth of July. This day signifies the day our forefathers published the “Declaration of Independence” which delcared the United Statets independent from Britain. This took place on July 4, 1776, a whole fifteen months after the fighting broke out at Lexington and Concord Massachusets. July 4th is alternativly called Independence Day here in the United States. It is a day just to be proud that the people of the late 18th century put everything on the line to break away from the most powerful empire on the planet at that point of human history. So today gather with friends and/or family, and be happy about our country breaking away from England.

Today I ask all who view this page to do a simple task. I promise it will not take long. Please take pause from the cold refreshments, the flame broiled barbecues, the hot dogs, steaks, and get-togethers. I ask that you spare a moment to think of all the soldiers who have fallen in this nation’s history so that you can enjoy the freedoms that you do today. That, afterall, is the meaning of this Memorial Day. If you are a religious person, you may want to say a prayer. If you are not, that is alright too. You can say “thanks” in your own way. Just think of all the men and women who have fought, bled, and died from the American Revolution to our current day wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We enjoy the freedoms we have today in large part to the great people who have preserved our freedom from tyranny by serving in the military. Those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, we salute you this day; we also thank you. The great nation we live in today would not be possible without those brave enough to pay the ultimate sacrifice.

Another one in the books. Lets see what exciting adventures that the next 365 days will bring us. It is the last year we can say “oh” plus a number to signify the year. Lets hope it is special.
