I came on here to say to my readers, Happy Thanksgiving. I spent most of the day watching movies getting away from the world. So as I came on Shane Haven to do wish all a happy turkey day I turned on the news to find horror on TV. As of right now in Mumbai, there is over 100 dead, and over 300 wounded in massive terror attacks. Terrorists from an unknown organization have taken over multiple hotels, restaurants, and other places and have taken hostages. This includes the Taj Hotel. As I am writing this there is explosions and gunfire going on from terrorists and Indian Police and Military. As I watch the news and live reports are coming in, one can here explosions and gunfire, it is really horrible. Bush and Obama have both condemned the actions of the terrorists. I believe they have even offered aid if they wish. Obama released a statement telling Americans that this is why it is important to fight the war on terror. ”President-elect Obama strongly condemns today’s terrorist attacks in Mumbai, and his thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and the people of India. These coordinated attacks on innocent civilians demonstrate the grave and urgent threat of terrorism.”

The terrorists were targeting British and American people to take hostage. I can’t really say much, as this has apparently been developing for the last 18 hours or so, and is still going on. Their has been talk that those responsible may be the Dekka Mujaheddin that constructed and carried out 10 coordinated attacks nearly at the exact same time. This is just really insane and felt compelled to report it. This is pretty massive event. If it is backed by Pakistan, and India blames Pakistan, two of the most nuclear charged countries in the world could go to war. I urge people to watch the news if you can bear it.

Here are some links on various parts of the story (all from CNN.com):

I apologize for not updating in the last couple days. As I said recently, Cal State Fullerton is pounding the work on me, and I don’t have time to write any in-depth articles. I have come across a few things I would love to comment on but things are hectic right now. I am going to be adding a few links to some cool blogs by the end of tonight. They are basketball blogs but one in particular is done in an interesting way. So check out the blog roll. There are also more to come beyond these basketball ones, but I have not made the final decision.

One thing I am really excited for is the TV movie of 24: Redemption. I have seen a couple seasons of 24. One I liked, one I didn’t. But I really have bought into the hype of this movie that is set in Africa, and is around the topics of child soldiers. It is really different than what other shows or movies have really tackled. So I am intrigued. It starts a 8pm Pacific Time tonight on Fox.

This is an issue that has a lot stigma involved with it. It takes the form of earlier civil rights movements and thus its is both a hot button issue and fairly controversial. The Governator, as he is called among Californian residents, is thinking about vetoing the law that the California citizens voted on to revoke the right of marriage to gay and lesbian couples. He is still clearly opposed to the proposition. I voted no on prop 8, as I think they should be able to marry the one they truly love. But California voters spoke. It took 6,434,312 California voters to say Yes on , to revoke their rights. Now, the question is, should Arnold do this? On one hand I believe so. The U.S. is not a true Democracy, and in reality we are a Republic. That should give him the power to do what he thinks is right and what he thinks is not discriminatory.  But on the other hand, 52% of the state said they didn’t want them to have rights. It may not be right but it is what the state wants. In the end I think Prop 8 was discriminatory and he should. It will be interesting to see what happens. Will Schwarzenegger respect the majority of his citizens, or will he do what he thinks is right in his heart.

There is an article circulating the web about how the Democrats are not going to reprimand Joe Lieberman as once suspected. But in the L.A. Times article, there is a quote that caught my eye. It is as follows: ” ‘My hope is that he becomes a Democrat again,’ California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said after the vote.” Now to some people this may seem like a normal comment that warrants no blogging on. To that, I say that those people would be wrong. It shows that at least one, and I would reckon it is just more than one, is not for a middle ground when it comes to the politicians and leaders of country. Lieberman is a registered Independent, thus he is supposed to have moderate views, which he does I would think. I am sure there are people on the Republican side that would have the same thought but it saddens me. There is a significant portion of the United States that are independents. Although it is a horrible source, Wikipedia says that it is around 30 percent. Although I am registered Republican I tend to think in an independent way. I feel that the reason I voted for Barack Obama was that he said he was going to be bi-partisan. So far he hasn’t delivered when choosing his staff. It is statements by people like Feinstein who scare me further, into believing that no one in leadership positions want bi-partisanship. I hope that Lieberman continues to be independent and doesn’t switch back to the Democrats, or join the Republicans either. Rock on Joe.

A little note: I am now employing tags to hopefully drive more people to www.shanehaven.com. I also am continuing to try and update once per day. University work has made it a bit difficult lately.
