Jack Thompson Disbarred

Thank God! I don’t see this as a major victory for video gamers who want their freedoms protected, he is only the head of the anti-video game movement. Like a multinational terrorist organization, and hydras, when you cut off the head it just grows back. Same sentiment can be seen with Thompson. Someone will take his place, and there has been other lawyers and politicians more relevant to this debate anyway. But Thompson was one of them. Also, all this says is that he can’t legally sue a video game company. He still has the freedom of speech and can still continue his crusade. However this is a victory of sorts, but there are many more that are needed before we can celebrate the true essence of video game freedom. I was working on homework while watching TV. I saw this commercial about this Chrysler Mini Van or SUV and it is suppuosidley so spacious in the back where you can have a table. Now the seats behind the front passenger and the driver seat face the wrong way. So the seats in the back are at a 180 degree difference than the driver seat. The vehcile is so quiet and abosrbs the textures of the road that one could apparently actually play Jenga on that table … yeah right. I mean all the car has to do is hit one speed bump or dip and down it goes. There is no way one can play Jenga in that fashion. But does Chrsler really think that Americans are that stupid that the can get them to believe that?
Socratic Style of Learning

Many say that our education system is quite a mess right now. I don’t know how to fix it but one way I think may help would be to switch to the socratic style of learning. Generally in schools, until one gets into the upper division courses of college, you are basically told to shut up, sit down, and listen to what the teacher or professor says. Now it may be a way to learn, but I also believe that it adds unnecessary problems to children. It doesn’t encourage social skills that one probably doesn’t pick up to the proper degree once lost. If the Socratic style was used one would be in a smaller class (which also would create more jobs) and be able to communicate better. Generally at a max, the teacher student ratio would 20:1. The teacher is not this evil figure that has to come down on the class, instead he/she is more on the students level involved in discussion of the topics. It also makes the students be more responisble because they have to know the material and able to discuss it during class time. The only problem is those, like me, who do learn a lot from the traditional lecture style may not learn as much, but I do believe they would develop more skills that would prepare them for the world after school.
Today I splurged a bit, and purchased Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for the PS3. This game has been one that is long awaited by many gaming and star wars fans alike. Basically it takes place in between Episode III and Episode IV, and you take the role of “Starkiller” Darth Vader’s secret apprentice as well as plan to overtake the empire. At first Vader has you just doing his bidding by continuing to wipe out more and more Jedi. Basically that is as far as I am in the game. About 4 or 5 levels. The game is really cool in the terms of being able to do some pretty amazing things with the force, and at that you do get a feel that Starkiller is extremely powerful maybe even more powerful than any Jedi or Sith in the universe. The game is a lot of fun and if you expect that out of this title you probably will like it.
Along with the positives are a few negatives that nearly outweigh the positives, and for the casual fan it probably will. The Star Wars fan will want to pick this up. It is a really fun game with a very compelling storyline. The Star Wars fan will not mind the annoying camera that sometimes make battles annoying also. They won’t mind the few glitches that will have to cause you to start from the last checkpoint although you haven’t died. But to the casual fan it is probably a rental at best. It is fun but the annoying parts are quite big as it is mainly a problem with camera. Also if one is looking for an easy game this is not it. I have died plenty of times as some battles are almost impossible and it seriously probably takes some luck. I haven’t finished the game but I have heard the game is rather short but I haven’t finished it so I can’t comment on it. All in all I would give the game a 7.7/10 … nothing super spectacular but something worth checking out.
